As we start to emerge from our third lockdown in London, I have completed my latest lino cut of my cat Albion's lockdown adventures (or lack of)!
There are now three in this series of prints - one for each lockdown.
This image sums up how I think most of us felt about the third time, Albion has retreated back inside where he is asleep on the radiator - on the Mexican cushion from the first print.

More adventures of Albion
The first print in this series saw Albion sitting on the back of the sofa wistfully looking out of the window. On the sofa is a cushion I bought in Mexico, our last holiday just before the pandemic took hold.

In the second print Albion has briefly escaped outside looking over the rooftops of London
'Lockdown Cat out on the Tiles'
The word unprecedented was brought out of obscurity to become one of the most overused word of the year. People thought they would write the novel they had always meant to, learn the piano, or make pasta from scratch. I found it hard to be creative, although we did start to make our own pasta. I was busier than I had been for ages making a new website. With all the markets I had booked cancelled and a studio full of new stock, this became a vital endeavour.
As the weeks ticked past I needed a break from the computer, so I turned back to what I really love to do - printmaking. Inspired by my cat Albion who can spend hours staring out of the window, I created
'Lockdown Cat with Mexican Cushion'
For me, Albion embodies the feeling of the strange times we are living through. His back is hunched as he turns away and stares out at a world which is beyond his control. There is the silhouette of another cat staring back at him from a window opposite.
We made a film of me creating the print and launched the new website with the film and print in June. I printed a small edition of 20 and they sold out in 2 weeks. I have now printed a second edition released today in time for the second lockdown
I created another Albion linocut over the summer 'Lockdown Cat out on the Tiles' when we were allowed out - it shows Albion on the roof of our house watching his friend in a window opposite
A limited edition of each print is available from today
Unframed £45 each or £85 for the pair / framed £65 each or £125 for the pair using code LOCKDOWN2 at the checkout
Stay safe and well, let's hope we're allowed out for Christmas

We played around with some of Rebecca's kitchen utensils and used her fabulous cupboard as a backdrop. What resulted is a very atmospheric and ambient collection of images of my products and a couple of me!

As restrictions are eased and we are all allowed out a little bit more he has ventured out onto the roof tops of London.
'Lockdown Cat out on the Tiles'
He is adhering to social distancing rules and is watching his friend from afar.
The friend also appears in the first print of the series 'Lockdown Cat with Mexican Cushion' which was so popular the full print run of 20 sold out in a matter of days! So as not to disappoint I have made an edition of 40, which is now released for sale on the website.

]]>Artists in the area display their work anywhere it can be seen from the street - their studio window, house, friend's house or local shop. PHCA have produced an online interactive map showing all the venues where artwork can be seen.
Visitors can follow the trail around Primrose Hill and see 37 artist's work without going inside. Everything can be viewed from the street and if someone would like to contact the artist and/or buy one of the artworks, there is a clickable link on the map to take you to the artist's website and contact details.
It's a lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon in London and experience a bit of local art - I think it's a genius idea!
Sunday 2nd August 2.30 pm to 6 pm

One of my House Portraits, many of which are of the Primrose Hill area, will be on display at 2 St George's Mews. It is not for sale but commissions are welcome, starting at £250.

Roughly chop the vegetables and arrange in a baking tray
Sprinkle with a little olive oil and put in a medium hot oven...
...until they're soft and a little crispy at the edges
I use an old hand blender my mother gave me when I went to art school in the late 1980s, it's still going strong after so many years. You can use a jug blender or even just a fork to mash it up.
Delicious and so healthy too! A great way to get your 5, 7 or 10 a day in one hit
If you'd like this recipe you'll find it on all my tomato soup range of organic cotton textiles - cooking instructions included!
My cat Albion likes to sit on the back of the sofa looking out at the world, checking on what's happening in our street and what the neighbourhood cats are up to. He does this anyway but I felt the image reflected my feelings about the current lockdown situation here in London.
He is also a very beautiful, elegant black cat who is great to draw - creating a fabulous silhouette. The image is reminiscent of my very first lino - see the previous blog post.
]]>I created my first lino cut when I was about 6 or 7 years old. Having a graphic designer for a father and an artist as a mother I have always had access to a studio. In particular I was fascinated by our fabulous Victorian Albion press which my father Tony Guy, bought in the 1960s. We still have it today in my mother's studio in Putney SW London.
